Ok, I'll admit it... I don't like starting a map from the scratch... But after looking at so many map layouts... Got to wondering how many mapmakers knew about the "Object Population extension" , Its under extension tab of nile. Its not hard... choose a tree, choose how many trees (let say a hundred), click choose area ( clicking and dragging a box over an area) ... Then click "populate" and Boom... A hundred trees placed in that area... Its always been a pet peeve of mine... I like decorations...
There is a technique graphics cards use called "geometry instancing." Basically the computer passes one instance of a tree or whatever to the graphics card and the GPU draws it hundreds of times, over and over and again. This saves lots of rendering time. UE4 calls this technique "instanced static meshes."
